am a Sandwiched Boomer. I admit that's an odd name for either a website or a person, but it describes me well. My parents were in their 40s when they met, married, and had their only child during the baby boomer years. Years later I met my Prince Charming, got married, and after a long wait we were blessed with our first baby.

My dad passed away long before our children were born, but my mom was very much a part of our lives when we were just a couple, and even more so when we had children. She was fortunate to have had good health, and she looked and acted decades younger than her calendar years. She even hiked up the sides of mountains with us in Ireland when she was in her late 70s.

As the years passed by, my independent mom became more dependent on me. That was never a problem. I was happy to give her all the help that she needed because....well just because I loved her and I enjoyed spending time with her.

By the time my mother was in her mid 80s, I had joined the ranks of the Sandwich Generation, a generation of people who are taking care of their parents, while at the same time raising their children. I don't know the exact day that it happened because it was a slow process, but I became a Sandwiched Boomer.
